[Renee] On Saturday December 3, the Southern Maryland Qualifier took place. Eighteen teams attended the
FTC portion of the qualifier. This year, something new happened, judging happened before the matches
began. This was great. Teams were able to complete judging without having to worry about missing matches.
With only eighteen teams, matches were very close together and many teams had back-to-back matches.
Overall, our team did very well. We worked together and didn't lose our tempers. When the robot didn't
work in the first few matches, we re-wired between matches and during lunch. After lunch, the robot worked
wonderfully. We were able to lift crates, fill crates, place crates on the homezone, and manipulate the
bowling ball. This helped us to a seventh place rank. During aliance selection, we were picked by the
number one seed, team 389 Robobees. We played well with them. During these matches, our autonomous worked
well. We consistantly moved the bowling ball to the front parking zone with our robot. This autonomous
won us matches. We decided that after the event, we were going to slow the robot so the bowling ball
doesn't bounce out of the zone. In the finals, we played against FTC 390. It was three St. Mary's Teams
and a Baltimore team in the finals. During these matches, the audience would call purple alliance. They
were rooting for both sides. During the last match, our claw was pulled off and stuck in 390's robot.
After we tried to pick up crates, we decided to go get the bowling ball. While we were headed over to it,
our joysticks died. We regained them but the zeros were off. We still managed to get the bowling ball off
of the floor. It was supported by a raquetball, the field wall and the homezone ramp. As soon as the
match was over, everyone on the alliance looked under the bowling ball. It was barely off of the floor.
